Volunteer at The Discovery Center!

Volunteering at The Discovery Center is a great way to give back to the community. Children in the Fresno area have a great deal to benefit from the special skills we know you can bring to our educational facility. Volunteer Positions

BabyFest 2008 Volunteers

When are they needed?
April 12th - Shifts between 8 am and 4 pm
What do they do?
Volunteers will be needed for a variety of positions assisting with this fun annual event! Volunteers will setup and take-down the event, as well as manage traffic and assist the planning committee with other tasks.

Summer Camp Staff

When are they needed?
This summer!!! Volunteers are needed for each of weeklong camps
What do they do?
As a Camp Staff you will assist in preparing and running camp activities and work with campers on projects. Individuals with specialties in the particular camp subjects would be appreciated to help with curricular preparations for camp.

Docents

When are they needed?
During our open hours Mon - Sat, 8:30 am - 4:30 pm (we will schedule you according to your availability)
What do they do?
Docents tend to our grounds during the open hours and interact with the children and adults who come to visit. They are taught the rich history of the grounds and pass that information on to the public. They are also trained in various activities for visitors to participate in.

Grounds Volunteers

When are they needed?
Mon - Sat, 9 am - 4 pm (we will schedule you according to your availability)
What do they do?
They help maintain the Discovery Center's exhibits and land, or can help build an exhibit by working on one of our existing projects or create their own. They can either pick a particular area to be responsible for, go off our list of regular duties or develop their own new project. Knowledge in gardening, construction and landscaping are a plus but are by no means necessary.

Grounds Volunteers help keep The Discovery Center beautiful throughout the year

Educator Assistants

When are they needed?
During our scheduled classes on our grounds or out at school sites
What do they do?
Educator Assistants are trained to assist the educators with specific classes by setting and cleaning up and helping students with their class project.

Educator Assistants: Nature Kids

When are they needed?
During our scheduled Nature Kids classes on our grounds or during Nature Kids Suitcause Science out at school sites
What do they do?
Educator Assistants are trained to assist the educators with Nature Kids classes and activities by setting and cleaning up and helping students with their class project. These volunteers will work with preschool-aged children during the Nature Kids sessions.

Event Volunteers

When are they needed?
Whenever we host a special event, nearly every month
What do they do?
Volunteers are needed before, during and after the event. Event volunteers help to organize and market the event. They also help set up and clean up. During the event they control traffic and parking, attend activity tables and help children with their projects.

Office Volunteers

When are they needed?
Mon - Sat, 9 am - 4 pm (we will schedule you according to your availability)
What do they do?
Office volunteers work doing tasks in the office such as data entry, answering phones, greeting customers, working in the gift shop and much more.
