Physical Science

Bubbles & Color (Pre - 2nd)
Investigate the physics of a bubble while discovering its amazing properties. Explore the shape of a bubble, why bubbles like wet surfaces, and how you can blow a bubble inside another. How many bubbles can you make in a bubble chain? How big of a bubble can you make? Look out at the world from the inside of a bubble. Blowing bubbles is just the beginning in this hands-on class.

Weird Science (2nd - 6th)
Chemistry is a blast in this exciting class. Join us as we experiment making various gases and substances using safe chemicals. Students learn that during a chemical reaction, substances change to form something new, a product. Then, we take that product and see what happens when we expose it to fire. Students participating in a suitcase science or hour-long field trip also make some Flubber to take home.

Magnets & Electricity (2nd - 6th)
Students will get charged up about science in this hair-raising class. First we explore the properties of magnets through hands-on group experimentation; we even defy the law of gravity using magnetic properties! We then come full circle while learning about circuits and electricity. Students turn on motors and light bulbs using a circuit board. We finish with our Van-Der-Graff generator as we discover static electricity. Students will be shocked with how much they can learn while having fun!

States of Matter (3rd - 6th)
Solids, liquids and gases have one thing in common - matter. In this interactive class, we'll experiment with the thre states of matter found on Earth. Uncover the truth of how matter changes from state to state. Using Skittles as molecules, we also explore the concept of density and discover why gases are less dense than other states of matter. In this hands-on workshop, we answer the question, "What's the matter?"

Aerodynamics (2nd - 6th)
Learn the physics behind heavier than air flight as we explore the principals of propulsion, drag and airfoils. The whole class will be excited as we make beach balls, paper helicopters and even toilet paper fly! Students will learn how to make their very own aircraft to take home. This class is sure to get your students' heads up in the clouds!

Tops & Spinner (2nd - 6th)
Newton's three laws will be explored as we look at a toy that has been used since before recorded history! The top is a great way to define words such as rotation, force, gravity, inertia and air resistance. Students will get a chance to see physics at work and will even make their own top to take home. This class is sure to get their wheels spinning with physics!

Structures (1st to 6th)
What do the Colosseum and the Sears Tower have in common? They are both structural marvels! Build gumdrop structures and newspaper towers while learning about the center of gravity, distribution of weight and strong shapes. Even the human body is used to demonstrate how tall buildings stay standing. Older groups may also have a chance to build a geodesic dome! Join us as we build up students' understanding of structures.
