In 1961 NASA sent a number of Gemini space-craft into orbit as the intermediary stage to the moon landing in 1969. Two astronauts at a time were lifted off to dock up with another Gemini crew and craft. Imagine spending two weeks at a time in space living just in the cockpit of a capsule similar to the Discovery Center’s Gemini replica space-craft. This particular one was built to travel the U.S.A. as an educational tool used by NASA and was eventually given to The Discovery Center in 1992. Since then, visitors have enjoyed sitting inside and letting their imagination take them through the cosmos. Plans to renovate the capsule into an authentic replica for the exhibit are in the works.
