The Deutsch Cactus Garden is home to over 250 species of cactus and succulents. The garden started in the mid 1930's by the Deutsch
family was considered an amazing spectacle. Started as a passing hobby by Fred Deutsch, this hobby grew into his life passion.
Fred and his wife traveled the country to locate rare and exotic cacti. One of the crowinng glories of his collection a 35-foot
tall Saguaro Cactus, found in the state of Arizona. These proud cacti have creamy-white flowers that bloom at night.
In 1994, the cactus garden that formerly resided on Van Ness bouldevard was moved to the Discovery Center. The Discovery Center had a small garden on site before the addition. With this addition, the size of the cactus garden tripled in size. Donated in 1995 by the Deutsch Family Charitable Trust it is constantly growing and changing under the careful care of The Discovery Center's curator. Many people come to see the interesting and unusual plant forms, some of which our quite rare. The garden is a site that should be enjoyed by all, so please come down and witness the spectacle that a "life-time" of collecting has created.
