Have a Fun-Filled Holiday Break at Winter Science Camp!

This December 17th through the 21st, The Discovery Center will once again be hosting our popular Winter Science Camp to provide your children with educational fun away from the classroom. As the weather in the Valley gets colder, your kids will become "cold detectives" learning everything there is to know about freezing temperatures. Whether they come for a whole week of camp, or stop by for the day, your children will enjoy all of our fun-filled winter lessons.

Flexible Daily Registration Options
"The holiday season is so busy," said Janet Berry, Executive Director of The Discovery Center. "We have had some parents that want their children to go to camp, but can't make the full week. This year, we are offering the option of signing up for one to five days. Give yourself a break during the holidays and keep your kids having fun while learning exciting things about science.

Kids become "Cold Detectives" at Winter Science Camp

Winter Science Camp teaches children about the states of matter by educating them on all things freezing. At camp, we'll learn how matter moves from a liquid to a solid, icy state. This will help with classroom curriculum as children review these concepts in their science classrooms when they return to school.

Since it's winter-time, we'll focus on ice, the solid state of water. Each day at camp will include fun-filled activities centered on the cold. To learn about how matter goes through the different state changes, we'll freeze our own ice cream right at camp. We'll also be making dry ice comets, snowflakes, and weather instruments we can use to study the cold weather.

Sponsor a child's week at Winter Camp through The Discovery Center

Camp will take place on December 17th through the 21st from 9 am - 4 pm daily. For children choosing to attend the full week of camp, the fee will be $175. With their special discount, members will pay only $150. For parents looking for fun activities for their children while they finish up their holiday shopping, single-day drop-in sessions are also available for $32 per day for members, and $37 per day for non-members.

Underprivileged Children Need Your Help
For those looking to give an anonymous gift to a child in the Fresno area this holiday season, The Discovery Center is seeking generous individuals who are willing to sponsor a child for a week of camp. Your tax-deductible $200 donation will provide a fun-filled week of memories and a lifetime love of learning for an underprivileged child in our area.

"We are working at the Boys and Girls Club for Winter Camp, and have 15 scholarships promised," said Berry. "I have at least five to ten neighborhood children that are looking forward to a week of camp. Your $200 donation will make a big difference to these children."
