Join us "In the Garden" for Saturday Science this May...

Let our master gardeners teach your kids about plant life...

Have your kids enjoyed the beautiful Spring weather yet? Are they looking for something fun to do on the weekends? Get them outside in the open air with Saturday Science at The Discovery Center!

Spring into the season with our "In The Garden" Saturday Science classes all this month! This May, your kids will take part in a variety of fun, garden-themed activities to learn all about plantlife. "In the Garden" Saturday Science classes will be taught by the University of California Master Gardeners at our very own Garden of the Sun. Join us on Saturdays from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m., unless otherwise noted.

  • May 9, 2009: "Plant a Seed"
    Come join the UC Master Gardeners and learn all about planting! Kids will get to scoop soil and plant seeds in a take-home container as we discuss germination and learn exactly what all plants need in order to grow.

  • May 16, 2009: "Garden of the Sun Kids Day"
    Come join us for the Garden of the Sun's Kids day! The UC Master Gardeners will have seed planting/transplanting, build-your-own toad house, presentations with live birds of prey and bugs, and much, much more!This event is from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

  • May 23, 2009: "Plant Art"
    We'll make flowers and plants even more beautiful as we create pressed flower art and leaf rubbings for kids to take home! We'll learn about leaf characteristics and the parts of a flower, too!

  • May 30, 2009: "Composting"
    Get the "dirt" on composting with the UC Master Gardeners at the Garden of the Sun! We'll explore vermicomposting, too: how our busy worms decompose organic material to make really good soil for plants to grow!
