"Fresno PAL and TDC Join Forces to Send Deserving Children to Camp"

Fresno PAL Send Kids to Camp at TDC

At this past Winter Science Camp, 12 children from Fresno Police Activities League (Fresno PAL) received sponsored camperships. Karen Kroske from Fresno PAL was excited for some of their children to visit the Center. "One of our PAL mentors, Gary Pigg, is on the board of directors at the Discovery Center," Kroske said. After getting in touch with TDC Executive Director Janet Berry, Kroske learned how they could work together to expose more children to nature through science camp.

"Fresno PAL, like The Discovery Center, is a non-profit organization," explained Kroske. "We are always looking for activities we can acquire for our children outside their normal daily activities." Hearing some of the feedback from the children, Kroske could tell they were excited about all they learned at camp. " Janet gave our children a unique chance to be exposed to science."


With many of Fresno PAL's children coming from low-income homes and low-performing schools, these camp experiences were entirely new. Kroske looks forward to future events at The Discovery Center. "Hopefully, we will be able to partner with each other for events this summer." She mentioned some of Fresno PAL's plans to offer more outdoor education for their children, including outdoor field trips and hikes. "Please let me express how grateful we are to have this association with the Discovery Center."
