Learning is Dinomite at The Discovery Center!

The dinosaurs may be extinct, but hands-on learning about them is still going strong at The Discovery Center. These fascinating creatures are the focus of one of our most popular classes, Dinomite.

The Dinomite class is an excellent addition to any Dinosaur unit, as well as the focus of a fun dinosaur-themed birthday party for your child. Now available as an extended one-hour class in addition to the standard thirty-minute session, your students can double their dinosaur pleasure on your next field trip to The Discovery Center.

Discovery Center educators combine interesting dinosaur facts and lessons with fun, hands-on activities to make our Dinomite class a fun experience with science. Children start the class off by learning some of the history of the dinosaurs, discussing the different prehistoric eras they lived in as well as when they were believed to become extinct. They will also learn about the distinguishing characteristics that separated a dinosaur from other reptiles.

“Most children are surprised to learn that Pterosaurs and Plesiosaurs are not dinosaurs,” said Discovery Center educator Helen Gates of the Dinomite lesson plan. “All dinosaurs lived on land, so prehistoric flying and swimming creatures were not dinosaurs!”

Looking at The Discovery Center’s collection of fossils will also help students learn about the life of a dinosaur. They’ll even have an opportunity to discover their own fossils or other dinosaur remains at The Discovery Center’s “Dino Dig Site”. Here, your students or birthday party guests will get to go on their own archaeological dig, finding “dinosaur” remains right on our grounds.

Students will wrap up their lesson with fun activities such as dinosaur words games, fact matching and more. With the help of a Discovery Center educator, your child will be able to review these activities to make sure they have gotten the most out of their hands-on learning experience.

"Dinomite continues to be one of our most popular classes, camps, and birthday party themes", said Discovery Center Executive Director Janet Berry. "Kids are just fascinated with dinosaurs!"

As a special offering this October, The Discovery Center has a dinosaur of a deal for Valley teachers. Any teacher who books a one-hour Dinomite class at The Discovery Center for 60 students or more this month will receive 10% off their total fees. Be sure to book early, because classes are filling up quickly!
