Summer Science Camp 2008

Summer science camp is a great way for children to spend their long summer days! Join us for Space Camp, Magic Camp with Master Magician Tim, and take a trip back in time with us as we explore kid favorites from the past 50 years. Your children will do exciting experiments in our classroom and have fun playing in our six-acre nature park. Saturday Science: Bubbles and Color This May

Bubbles and Color are this month's theme for Saturday Science! Your kids will use hula-hoops and wading pools to blow giant bubbles while they learn exactly why they take the shape of spheres. They'll try catching bubbles in a jar and try to figure out why bubbles like wet surfaces. Help your kids find the valuable science lessons hidden in some of their favorite, fun activities!


Summer Star Parties: May 2 - August 1, 2008

Come join The Discovery Center as we welcome local astronomers and star gazing enthusiasts to our grounds. Every "clear" Friday night the Discovery Center will host a "Star Party" on the lush grounds of the Adobe Picnic area. Everyone is welcome to attend this amazing event. Bring your telescopes, star charts, and blankets to enjoy a fun-filled evening beneath the night sky.


View Space May 2008

View Space is a self-updating program created by the Space Telescope Science Institute. View Space portrays the beauty and wonder of the universe in several hour-long documentaries. Come and view the breathtaking images that will be beamed directly into The Discovery Center from the Space Institute.

Saturday Science: See Rare and Exotic Cacti at the Deutsch Cactus Garden this April!

The Deutsch Cactus Garden is an amazing spectacle of desert life that has been a lifetime in the making. Here, you'll find a rare sight - a 35-foot Saguaro cactus with flowers that bloom at night! You'll also see barrel cactus, fish-hook cactus, and even the hard-to-grow creeping devil cactus! Bring the kids to see this incredible exhibit of exotic cacti from all over the country!


Fresno BabyFest, April 12th 2008!

The Fresno BabyFest is an annual Discovery Center event that is always FREE to the public. This spring festival "celebrates and educates" by celebrating babies and their families and educating about positive ways to keep them healthy and happy. We feature informative booths and demos on topics related to children 0-5yrs and their families, vendors of products which encourage positive parenting, as well as food, family entertainment, and more.


Nature Kids Preschool Science Classes: Animal Defenses this February from 9:30 - 10: 30 am Every Thursday

Animals have a number of natural defense mechanisms to help protect them from other creatures in the wild. This month, children will learn about four very different animal defenses. In our first class, we'll study the defenses used by the dinosaurs long ago, including plate amour, horns, and spikes. Our second session will focus on poisonous animals and how their bright colors can warn predators to stay away. Finally, we'll learn about animals that hide through creative play, and how animals that camouflage themselves are different from those that hide.


Saturday Science in the Park: Magnets and Electricity this February from 12 to 3 PM Every Saturday

Every Saturday in February we'll be experimenting with magnets and electricity to have fun while learning. Your children will get hands on with different magnet stations full of experiments like connecting a circuit, making a bulb light up, making a light bulb out of a pickle, and more fun activities from our Magnets and Electricity class. Bring the entire family for these fun activities!


Saturday Science in the Park: Musical Trash Mania this January from 12 to 3 PM Every Saturday

Every Saturday in January we'll be having fun while learning all about recycling. Your children will learn how to reuse, reduce, and recycle from The Discovery Center's educators while making musical instruments from recyclable materials, and enjoying more fun activities from our Musical Garbage class. Don't miss these activities, fun for all ages!


Winter Science Camp: December 17th To 21st from 9 am to 4 pm.

This November, Winter Science Camp returns at The Discovery Center! Your kids will become "cold" detectives as they explore the properties of substances as they reach freezing temperatures. As they learn the difference between solid, liquid, and frozen states of matter, they will have a blast with some of our most popular hands-on activities. They will make ice cream, assemble a dry ice comet, make snowflakes, and even build their own weather instruments! Register your child for the full week, or even a single day of camp today!


Saturday Science in the Park: Yokut Indian Studies this December from 12 to 3 pm every Saturday

Every Saturday in December,your child will enter the world of a Yokut Indian.Our grounds feature an extensive collection of Yokut artifacts,including our special Yokut basket collection.They will even be able to explore real Indian tepees at our campfire site.Bring the whole family for this fun venture into the life of a Yokut Indian!


Saturday Science in the Park: Dino-Mite Fun this November from 12 to 3 PM every Saturday

Every Saturday in November we'll be having fun while learning all about dinosaurs.Your children will learn about these gigantic creatures from The Discovery Center's educators while engaging in some of the most popular activities from our Dino-Mite class. They' ll even get to go on their own "Dino Dig" as they search for bones at our very own Dino Dig Site.
